National Flower Of Mauritius

The Trochetia Boutoniana the national flower of Mauritius since 12th march 1968. Known also as 'Boucle d’Oreille' (French: earring tree) scrub that has orangey-red flowers. From June to October the Trochetia Boutoniana produce flowers that has red coloured nectar that is thought by scientists to attract phelsuma geckos to pollinate the plant.
A variety called Trochetia Parviflora that was unseen in Mauritius since 1768* was rediscovered at Corps de Garde Mountain Nature Reserve by in 2001 by a specific search conducted by Vincent Florens and his companion Jean-Claude Sevathian
