National Flower Of MauritiusThe Trochetia Boutoniana the national flower of Mauritius since 12th march 1968. Known also as 'Boucle d’Oreille' (French: earring tree) scrub that has orangey-red flowers. From June to October the Trochetia Boutoniana produce flowers that has red coloured nectar that is thought by scientists to attract phelsuma geckos to pollinate the plant.A variety called Trochetia Parviflora that was unseen in Mauritius since 1768* was rediscovered at Corps de Garde Mountain Nature Reserve by in 2001 by a specific search conducted by Vincent Florens and his companion Jean-Claude Sevathian |
