Mauritius Anthurium Flower

Mauritius is second only to the Netherlands for World exports of the Anthurium (Pronounced an-fur-ree-um) flower. These flowers are grown by about 150+ producers around the island in saran shaded greenhouse structures. Varieties exist in many colours ranging from the common red to green, and even black. What makes these flowers popular, once seen never forgotten flowers is it almost unusual shape: a spathe that protrudes from single leaf like flower. Mauritius exports to the US, Russia, Germany, Italy, Australia, and Taiwan. Demand for the Anthurium Andreanum plant, is growing annually at a steady rate but production of it seems to be remaining stagnant. The name Anthurium is derived from Greek anthos and oura, which respectively means flower with a tail.
