  • Daylight Saving Time (DST)

Date and time in Mauritius: 06 February 2012 08:33:52

For 2012, Daylight saving time started on Sun 26-Oct-2008 at 02:00:00 AM i.e. +5 and ends on Sun 29-Mar-2009 at 03:00:00 AM i.e. +4
Daylight savings time Schedule for next year: On Sun 26-Oct-2013 at 02:00:00 AM DST will start i.e. GMT+5 On Sun 29-Mar-2013 at 03:00:00 AM DST will end i.e. GMT+4

Note: the above clock automatically adjusts for Mauritius DST.

On 23rd July 2008, the government of Mauritius decided to reintroduce (introduced and abandoned in 1982) daylight saving time to Mauritius, saying that it will

'produce gains to the country, reduce global carbon emissions, generate substantial savings in

terms of energy production and consumption, and at the same time, reduce the electricity

peak demand in the evening by some 15 MW.'
These gains will come from things like reducing the time for the need to light up homes/offices etc later in the day.
This comes when you shift the the normal day back an hour to make use of the early sunrise/sunset of the day.
Mauritius should also gain from increased day light time span during the summer in its tourism sector.
